How To… Discover which copy converts to traffic best
Without any setup, you can identify what copy generates clicks on your GoTryTHIS links.
GoTryTHIS already tracks what web sites send you the traffic on the “Referrers” tab. Campaigns let you further sub-divide traffic going to a link. For instance, some marketers write e-mails, blog posts, articles, etc., with the same link several times in the copy, with a numerical campaign (”-1″, “-2″,…) at the end of each link to see which copy in the e-mail was most compelling or how far people read before the copy converted.
Create campaigns by appending a dash plus a campaign name to the end of the link, so that in the end it still follows the rules of any standard URL. You just make it up as you type or paste the link into your marketing, such as adding “-tracking.html” to the end of a GoTryTHIS link, “/mylink”, to create /mylink-tracking.html”. (The “.html” is optional.) Campaign names can also be keyword rich for SEO purposes.
Even though the link was not created before hand, it will work when clicked on, and the click will count towards that campaign as well as the total clicks on the link.
Tracking copy like this lets you compile a list of copy that converts to traffic and weed out bad copy. Then you can use the best copy in your sales letters etc.
Another idea is to do a split-test on a segment of your list with your email software, sending out two or more variations on your copy and see which one gets the most clicks by tracking each with different campaigns. Then, you send out the winning copy to the rest of your list, use it in articles, etc.
