Upgrade failed, and links stopped working.

In this ticket, the upgrade and links stopped working and none of the files could be updated.

Here is our response, which may be helpful to someone else:

This did not just affect your GoTryThis links/folders, it affected your entire account – there was no permission to modify ANY files or folders on the entire domain so I looked a little deeper and this is what the cause was:

ThirdSphere SiteLox protects your site from hackers attacking your site using browser exploits or by finding outdated and vulnerable scripts on your account. It works by locking all the files in your /public_html/ folder and preventing anyone (including you) from modifying them via FTP or any other website building tools.

When you set your site status to “Lox”, none of your website files can be modified. If you wish to make changes on your site, simply set the status to “Unlox” and you’ll be able to work on it normally.

Important:
If your website status is set to “Lox” and you did not turn it on, it is because our system found an outdated or vulnerable script on your account and locked it to protect you from hackers. Click here to verify all your scripts are up to date… and click here to learn how to upgrade the outdates ones.

I believe the reason this was automatically enabled by ThirdSphere is due to it finding that your WordPress script is out of date, so it is possible that it may enable SiteLox again when it does it’s checking. My guess is that you will HAVE to update your WordPress in order for it to leave your site “unlocked”. To access the SiteLox info and commands, just log in to your cPanel and check the “SiteLox Status” (the very first item in the upper-left corner). Click the status (on/off) to change the setting.
